KEITH PURVIS OF GERMANTOWN, TN contacted our Chicago restaurant with an unusual dinner request: He and his son, Austin, are longtime fans of Lawry’s (Keith first discovered our Chicago restaurant during a business trip in the 1980s). Austin was about to have his 18th birthday and his first day of college at Middle Tennesee State University (both on the same day).
To celebrate, his dad wanted to surprise Austin with a whirlwind trip to their favorite restaurant. To enable them to complete their trip in a single day, Keith asked if we could arrange an early dinner. Well, of course! We opened before regular dining hours especially for the Purvises and greeted Austin with a birthday card and “care package” of Chicago-made goodies, including a Cubs jersey and cap. After a leisurely prime rib dinner, father and son had a behind-the-scenes tour of the kitchen and met many members of our Chicago staff. We got them off in time to make the last flight back to Nashville.

Keith later wrote us to say: “This experience will remain an eternal memory for myself and my son. I am very grateful that you and your staff helped me to show [Austin] a glimpse into the depths of my feelings. I have no doubt that Austin will someday bring his own family to your restaurant and will tell them the story of when he and his dad sat alone in the middle of the dining room and were given the royal treatment.”
