In California, Dennis Galero, personal assistant to Board of Trustees Chairman Emeritus Richard N. Frank, was relieved to learn his immediate family back in Butuan City on Mindanao was safe. But when he heard his friend Renior Beltran had lost everything, Mr. Galero wanted to do something to help.

Inspired by the relief organization Gawad Kalinga (meaning “Give care” in the Tagalog language), he began a campaign to collect donations that would be given directly to Mr. Beltran to pay for the building of a new house.
Mr. Galero turned to his friends in the local Filipino community and to the Lawry’s Restaurants’ owners he has come to know over the years. Through his efforts and with their contributions, he raised the funds and is happy to report the Beltran family moved into their new home in May.
