Spring 2017

Everything but the Dragons

Five Crowns put on a show fit for the Seven Kingdoms at this year’s Dux in Tux fundraiser, and won “Best Tablescape” for their Game of Thrones-themed display.

When characters from Game of Thrones served a sumptuous six-course feast for fourteen in the ballroom of the Hilton Anaheim on February 23rd, they weren’t staging another Red Wedding — and they weren’t really from the Seven Kingdoms. They were from our own Five Crowns.

Chef Steve Kling’s Game of Thrones food and drink pairings, inspired by the Five Crowns menu, were certainly fit for any Lord or Lady of Westeros.

For the third time since 2015, our restaurant’s Sales and Marketing Manager Alison Robbins brought a team of co-workers, this year dressed as their favorite GOT personalities, to the annual Dux in Tux fundraiser presented by Honda. Proceeds from the event, attended by 350 guests and featuring chefs from thirty-six Orange County restaurants, went to the Anaheim Ducks Foundation, the pro hockey team’s charity organization.

Our inventive crew had a great time, helped a worthy cause and, for the second year in a row (after their triumphant Alice in Wonderland theme last year), took home the prize for “Best Tablescape.”

The setting’s red and blue lighting, representing Fire and Ice, was dramatically heightened by smoke from a discreetly placed smoke machine.

The winning Chef’s Table décor, a collaboration between Five Crowns, Classic Party Rentals and Bella Blooms, featured plush “dragon eggs,” thrones, chandeliers, luxurious china, candelabras and a fern dragon centerpiece.

Though Anaheim Ducks forward Joseph Cramarossa is more familiar with skating on ice than he is filling glasses with it, the athlete got into the spirit of things as an honorary Five Crowns server.

During an interview with Kent French, a Ducks announcer and reporter for Ducks Weekly on Fox Sports West, Alison revealed she was already thinking about next year’s theme.

It’s no wonder Five Crowns is more popular than ever as a southern California wedding and special events venue. Alison and all her co-workers bring the same imagination and enthusiasm on display at Dux in Tux 2017 to every occasion. But, when she says, “We like to go all out to offer guests a unique experience,” it probably won’t include dragons — although you never know.
