Celebrate “The Tam O’Shanter” writer with bagpipes, haggis, dancing and more!
If you haven’t seen it yet, we know you’ll enjoy the stunning new history display created by Director of Design Susie Frank in the waiting room of our flagship Lawry’s The Prime Rib, Beverly Hills. The fifty image collection, mounted on handsome mahogany panels spanning three walls, is divided into seven sections visually highlighting our multi-generational story and what makes Lawry’s unique. Susie explains, “Over the years, our guests have told us how much they liked the photos and bits of Lawry’s history in the small hallway display case. It’s something we’ve always wanted to expand on, and the yearlong revitalization of the restaurant gave us the perfect opportunity.”
On first seeing the display, your eye is immediately drawn to the nearly life-size vintage image of a carver serving a cut of prime rib from our iconic silver cart. You soon discover that the artistically arranged photos extending to either side weave a tale through the decades. The earliest image is a flyer advertising the Frank family‘s Milwaukee sausage business in 1860. In this section, entitled “The Families,” are pictures of generations of Frank and Van de Kamp co-workers.
“The Restaurant” images show the different buildings Lawry’s occupied from 1938 to 1993, three past interiors and a fun 1950s map of Restaurant Row. We spotlight Lawry’s innovations like valet parking and the “doggy bag” in a collection of “The Firsts.” “The Show” illustrates the elements of the classic Lawry’s dining experience we are known for including the original silver serving cart, tableside service, some of the various server and carver uniforms over the years and the preparation of our Famous Spinning Bowl Salad. We dug through our archives and assembled several Lawry’s menus from different eras in the section appropriately named “The Menus.” Although prices and some dishes have changed with the times, you’ll see our focus on prime rib hasn’t.
Of course, Lawry’s Seasoned Salt has become a kitchen staple everywhere, its popularity instantly invoking name recognition around the world. “The Seasoning” section touches on this and the international Lawry’s Foods business that grew from it. We didn’t want to leave out what has become a nationally known annual holiday ritual of the college football tournament season: “The Beef Bowl.”
Lawry’s is very proud of our long history. It’s who we are. Sharing it has always been a way to stay connected to you and all our guests over the years. On your next visit, be sure to spend a little time with the new history display. Memories and smiles guaranteed.
