Pulitzer Prize winning food critic Jonathan Gold’s description of Lawry’s The Prime Rib as “Always special, nothing like it” could easily apply to his writing. As the most authoritative and appreciated voice on the LA food scene, he became an insightful cultural commentator who revealed and explained his native city to itself.
In May, Jonathan hosted a Los Angeles Food Bowl panel at Lawry’s The Prime Rib, Beverly Hills where he shared memories of Lawry’s with four top chefs and 200 enthusiastic guests. All of us at Lawry’s were saddened by his sudden passing in July.
On August 14th, Lawry’s joined Spago, Pitfire Pizza, Luques and San Antonio Winery in providing food and drink for a special evening inaugurating a bigger than life size outdoor mural of Jonathan in West Los Angeles. Raffle tickets were sold to benefit the Family of Jonathan Gold GoFundMe campaign.
Attendees enjoyed prime rib sandwiches served from Lawry’s signature Silver Cart while listening to heartfelt tributes and reminiscences honoring the writer’s unique legacy.
