In February, Chicagoans, enduring record breaking low temperatures, received a warm welcome at the Grand Opening of SideDoor, our new casual, yet sophisticated American-style gastropub in the historic McCormick Mansion — home of Lawry’s The Prime Rib, Chicago.
Locals from the surrounding River North neighborhood as well as representatives of the media and nearby businesses came together to celebrate this newest venture from Lawry’s Restaurants. Upon entering, guests find what was once a formal dining room transformed into a lively gastropub with a personality all its own.
General Manager Max Maxwell explained to the crowd: “SideDoor has a relaxed, ‘come as you are’ speakeasy vibe and a design and service style that encourages sharing great food and conversation.”
SideDoor’s cozy dining room brings guests into the building’s history.
At SideDoor, a cozy bar opens into an inviting room with comfortable lounge seating, tufted leather banquettes, an intimate nook and communal spaces. Fine wood millwork, two portraits from the late 1800s (modified ever so slightly…), the marble mosaic floor and some antique artifacts, echo the past.
At the same time, subdued lighting from Industrial Chic iron chandeliers, a modern open “display” kitchen, with its copper hooded grill and charcuterie station, along with the sounds of American jazz, blues and rock combine to bring the room solidly into the 21st century.
SideDoor has a more casual atmosphere when compared to its neighbor Lawry’s The Prime Rib.
The gastropub’s menu reflects the hearty Midwestern palate. Building on the Lawry’s tradition, it appeals to a new generation of beef lovers by focusing on premium roasted meats with signature dishes like the Lawry’s Prime Rib Sandwich, our House Cured and Smoked Pastrami Sandwich and our unique Roasted Meat Boards.
Spicy Glazed Chicken Wings, Prime Rib Chili Cheese Fries, Colorado Lamb Shank Pie and Crispy Kale Caesar salad are just a few of the shareable bites, sides and plates you’ll find at SideDoor. You’ll also enjoy a variety of seasonally changing, locally sourced fish, vegetables, cheeses and charcuterie. Among the tempting deserts, the Pretzel Bread Pudding is a standout.
