CO-WORKER SPIRIT has been the foundation of Lawry’s success since we started.

Last spring, Lawry’s The Prime Rib, Beverly Hills servers Dan Fennen, Michael Schaefer and Clifton Yada took that spirit and literally “ran with it’’ as they competed together in the San Diego Rock n Roll Marathon benefitting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

You’d think running 26 miles with 25,000 other racers would be the last thing someone whose job requires long hours on their feet would want to do. Nevertheless, when Clifton came up with the idea during one of the mastermind goal-setting groups many of our co-workers are part of, Michael and Dan rose to the challenge.

With only four months to train, the trio relied on each other, the encouragement of their co-workers (along with tips on running technique from new Prime Rib manager and triathlete, Alejandro Pages) — and the knowledge that they would be helping others — to achieve what to most of us seems like an impossible goal.

We’re happy to report all three successfully crossed the finish line in good time and plan to run a half marathon together later this summer. When asked what the secret is to being a great server every night and still being able to run a marathon, Michael said, “It’s the support of your co-workers… and a good pair of insoles!”
